A Marquetry Odyssey is Silas Kopf’s monograph as well as a history of the craft from a technical perspective. The book explores the roots of marquetry and inlay starting in ancient Egypt, through the Italian Renaissance, classical French furniture, right through the 21st century and laser cutting. Parallel to the history is an explanation of how the revered objects from the past have influenced Kopf’s own furniture.
This DVD explores various master techniques that have been used to make marquetry decoration on the masterpieces of Western furniture. Silas Kopf demonstrates the most important ways marquetry and inlay have been fabricated since the eighteenth century. The Subjects that are covered in this one hour and twenty-five minute film are: basic inlay, making bandings, parquetry, Boulle process traditional "piece by piece" packet cutting, and double bevel sawing.

There is no substitute for seeing a craftsman work in "real" time. We believe this video can illuminate techniques that look complicated, but give a novice the understanding to begin his own pursuit of this wonderful craft.
